It seems as though West Long has been stocked with trout recently. I assume this because the smallmouth are still biting like crazy and doubt the trout have made a comeback on their own.

Any word on this?

There is a public landing on the Utopia side of the lake but you need to be able to hand launch it. Landing is not sutible to back a trailer into the lake.

It really is a shame some idiot put bass in that lake.

Keep all the smallmouth you legally can after July 1st. And before then, maybe don't use your best C&R techniques...

i tried for a week 2 years ago...and landed no lakers or brookies, only a ton of small mouths and some cat fish up in the stream. it was the first of june, a little late for the best laker bite, but it was when i could get there. you did well to get any jim.

At the spot where you hand launch the small boat, after you have move out of the cove to the main lake, where would you go left or righton the main lake to have success in catching smallmouths? Do you have to go to far end of lake to find them or just cast along shore is sufficient. Thank you in advance.

Anywhere in the lake to catch smallmouth. When we are launching the boat the kids catch bass right from shore. We normally just troll the edge of the lake and have great success.
