I'm interested in learning about Third Lake. It looks intriguing from Google maps. If anyone has any info on it - is the fishing good? Is it rocky? shallow? sandy or weedy? Also, what is the best way to access it? I see a woods road that goes into it from just above Diggity Stream. Is that open for public? Is it accessible by car, truck or 4 wheeler? I'd be looking to launch a kayak.

Alternatively, if I were to come up from Wauklehegan, is it possible to kayak up through Duck pond and into Third?

Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

I built a camp on it and owned the camp until 2010, then sold it to a cousin. The road going to the lake goes in from the 630 and goes around Mount Henry to the dam. The road is past Diggity , on the right. It is quite wide and just before Palfrey Lake Lodge road. You go in the road and you`ll come to a Y, go to the right. Keep going and you`ll go up a big hill. There is a road on the right that goes almost to Wauklehegan. Don`t go this way but continue down the back side of the hill. At the foot of the hill is the dam. There is an area here you can pitch a tent or park a trailer if you wanted to. I also built a bit of a boat landing here but you should have a 4x4 to use it. I unloaded my 16 ft. boat here many times. On Modsley Lake there is a camp which belongs to the First McAdam Venturers group. If you`d like to use it, that may be possible. It`s on Loon Island and very nice. The dam was constructed in 1983 and 1983 to hold the water back in Modsley Lake and raise the water levels in Colter`s Brook to help flush Wauklehegan Lake. Third Lake is like all the lakes in this area, rocky and fairly shallow. The deepest area I found in the lake is17 feet. It gets lots of weed growth but is great for a canoe or kayak. I ran a boat in it but got to know where all the rocks were, the hard way. There isn`t a channel, so you can hit a rock anywhere.2 brooks come into the lake, North Brook and Dead Brook, both have trout in their upper stretches but not close to the lake. Pickerel rule in the lake and their are bass also. There is a hole at the spot where the 2 brooks come together and empty into Third that holds big white perch. From Third Lake you can go into Modsley through the thoroughfare. The fishing in here is incredible as is the scenery. Modsley Lake has the biggest pickerel I`ve ever seen. I`ve caught many 30 inch plus. All this area is unfished and the fish are plentiful. You can go from Wauklehegan to the duck pond and then into Third Lake but there are 2 spots you have to portage or drag your canoe through. There is a trail that goes from the inlet on Wauklehegan to Third Lake and it`s not a long walk. The trail is as far as you can go into the inlet and on the left side under a Red Maple Tree. If you decide to go up, let me know, I'll show you how to get to the lake. If you look at the map, you will see a set of railway tracks on Modley Lake. Tracks are gone and there is good access to Modsley from here for kayaks and canoes. If anyone requires information about the lakes surrounding McAdam, let me know, I've fished them all for over 50 years and I'd be happy to give you any knowledge(?)

A van should have no trouble as long as you take your time. I have a truck and can take your kayaks or canoes in. I'm not working so I need lots to do.(according to my wife). As A2F stated you can drive up the old rail line and there is a wide spot to get out of the way. Unloading a boat there is going to be a chore. Pretty much have to drag the boat to the water.(only 20 feet or so)

Sako... you have gone above and beyond to answer my questions. Simply awesome of you. I hope you get to spend a lot of time fishing (or whatever else it is you want to do). Thanks so much. I can get access to a truck if needed, but my mini van is what I normally travel around in. I`ve tried taking it in back roads before and had to turn around. Well actually, I had to back up quite a ways first-- through really rough roads. Not fun. So I hope to find out before hand what to expect. This tells me what I need to know. Thanks again.

CountryMike... considering how bad the bugs were at Diggity stream I assumed they would be as bad or worse at third. What do those things live off when there are no people around to suck dry?

I'm all good with lots of rocks. Makes good structure, and since my boat is a kayak it is rarely a problem.

I spent from wed-Sunday in macadam fishing and the bugs were not bad at all while on the water . Standing on shoreline however is not fun lol .... If you have time before you go I'll give you a tip with gear.... This year I outfitted myself with 30 lb power pro super slik braid as well as a 30 lb vanish florocarbon leader material .... I did not use any steel leaders this year at all !!!! I only lost 1 hook and rubber frog the entire trip ! 4 days iof pickerel fishing , hundreds of bites and probably boated 80- 100 ... And a few bass as well !
And when I said I lost 1 rubber frog that was it !! Before I left I had heard about z-man rubber baits and how well they stand up !!!! Wow do they ever , I bought 2 packages of frogs , 4 in each package . 4 white and 4 green .... I have come home with 3 white and 4 green , in prefect condition !!!! They are fantastic !!!!! Usually you lose the legs and they get torn up ,, but these babies are amazing , can't even tell they have been bitten ! No chew marks at all !!!!! Amazing baits for sure !!!! I used a size 4 gamagatsu hook , perfect size .... The only tip I would suggest is applying a little super glue on the top of the hook to keep the bait in place ... I've even pull sy snap swivel through Several times and the lure works great!!!! They are a popping frog so you can run them too water and pop them. Or you can put a bullet weight on Your leader material to add some weight and they will run under the water .... With this set up you will have a lot of success , little loss of gear , I'm amazed at how well it did !!! Worst case scenario was I would get a strike , reel it in and just have to reposition the lure on the hook ... Pound the shorelines , grassy coves , structure , docks , and you will have a great trip ....

I walked around the campground a couple times , fri evening and Saturday evening hoping to run into you and chat .. Couldn't believe how early the place shuts down .. Only 1 trailer had lights on , nobody had a campfire or anything ....

The trailer behind the big rock with the white fence is mine. We were there Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday. Bought a new trailer on Friday and had to move my decks. Posted a link on facebook for the trailer. Glad to see people starting to fish the lakes. A2F, we'll have to try to get out this summer.
