Hi everyone, My wife and I will be coming down to stay on our property on the St. John River in the Bloomfield, Kingston, Evandale and Grand Bay Westfield area. I would love to get out fishing in the canoe anytime I can.
I have caught smallies in this area before from shore, but would really like to try for Striped Bass, Shad or even Muskie. Can anyone suggest if this area is good for any of these species? If not, I don't mind driving to better areas if I know where. Shore fishing suggestions are also good.

Any help is really appreciated,

Thanks,

Rob

for muskies you need to go further north - oromocto river and up, so freddie below the boat club would be good, and above the dam.
shad should be right where you are at, but it's a little late for them.
striper season is just getting good. again try right in your area at night, or the Kennibicasis below hampton, the St.John river almost anywhere.
there are a ton of pickeral in your area, great fun! use a leather glove to grab them by the shoulders to release - they have a soft skin easily damaged by nets and a million teeth that will teach you never to thumb them!! lot's of smallies around this year too.

Thanks Ipop,

I'm getting a little more exited about coming down there next week after reading your reply. I will certainly try these spots and bring down a couple of fly rods as well for the pickeral as I have a good selection of pike flies I'm sure they will like.

Newbie,I've lived on the Kingston Peninsula for 10 years now, it's a great spot for some fun fishing! On the end of the Kingston Creek is some great top water fishing for some pretty decent pickerel, also the smallies are moving in there as well as stripers a little farther up the cove towards where it runs out into the BelleIsle Bay.If you want to target smallies, try Walton Lake. It's chocked full of them! Easy to put a canoe in too!If you want to target trout, you might want to put your canoe in at Pickett Lake, especially in the evening if you want to use flies. There are some huge trout in there, although they can be picky this time of year. Also Sear Lake has trout and bass.Just about anywhere over here that has a body of water will hold something to have a ball with! Good Fishing!
