I have been fishing brookies for the last three years in p.e.i. and prior to that i did alot of northern, and walleye fishing with the odd large mouth fishing trip when i was living up in ontario. il be fishing canaan river, any tips or advice would be great.

Personally, I am a rapala nut. I find the bleeding olive shad to be the best followed closely by a jointed black and silver, size 7 or 9. Storm hot-n-tots are also good if the water is around 10'deep. Also u can never go wrong with a double hildebrand with a snelled hook and juicy worm!!!Some ideas to get u started!!

Make sure to pack some soft plastics (tubes, stick baits, grubs etc). I am using less of the cranksbaits and other hard baits because I constantly catch smallies on soft plastics when all else fails. Fish them slow

the canaan river has smallies? i thought it was just some lakes in the area.

rocketball and casey have it covered, i would just add twitch baits, either hard or soft, fished very slow, and for august any small, fat red crank.

Those are all great suggestions. I would add a Mepps Aglia long # 2 with a rainbow blade. It really can't be beat for midday and early afternoon when they just won't take anything else.
Good luck.
Cheers.
