Hey guys, I was at kennebecasis river today with my fly rod and spinning rod. I caught and released a bunch of trout and salmon but couldn't hook a shad wich I really wanted to. I tried all sorts of flies and baits. I used almost all the flies I had with me, almost all th e crank baits, plastics, putty baits and worms. I just could not get anything to work. Any suggestions to catch shad? all suggestions will be appreciated!

[Jigging fish is illegal. What you need for shad is a shad dart.

some people uses mickey finn for shad... was the salmon u caught big or just 3-4 inches?

The salmon was just about 5-7 inches max. I did not mesure it but it was only a parr so it wasn't that big. Also do you know if red devil spoons work good for shad?

i have no idea.... all ive fish so far was brook trout, rainbow trout, stripe bass, smallmouth, pickerel, salmon, shads probly one of my next right after the muskie...lol

I tried a green machine fly. this is what the one i used looked like, I had no luck

Shad flies are nymph type flies that are tied in various colors. I did not catch your post until now but if you are looking for shad flies here in New Brunswick we have been catching them with flies for years. Just let me know.

shad darts, a plain silver or black hook, silver dr flies (small), and as mentioned - nymphs. think small. shad have a soft mouth too, keep it in mind on the hookset.
