for salmon in quebec you would need a guide or go through a lodge (and still probabley a guide). a lot of the best salmon rivers are on the gaspe, including the st. mary and st. john rivers (a little river there, not the big st. john here), but don`t miss out on one that is shared with nb - the restigouche, which is supposed to have some of the biggest atlantic salmon in the world

Stretches of the Matapedia River are open to non residents without guides required. Here is a link to the catch effort last season. http://www.cgrmp.com/stat.html They had an exceptional year. The Patapedia R on that stats page has a stretch that might be open to non residents but most of it is shared reserve water New brunswick starts the float 1 day then a Quebec party the next day alternating throughout the season. If you are interested in guide services Pete Dube at Hotel Motel Restigouche in Matapedia offers services on some of the nearby rivers. He would be able to tell you what areas that you can fish without a guide. Here is his link http://www.matapedia.com/english/home/home.html
