Have Friday off work, and Saturday and Sunday look like rain....so, like any fisherman would do, I've rounded up a fishing partner and were headed to some public pools between Boistown and Doaktown for a day of salmon fishing. Aiming to hit porcupine pool at 0600 for few hours, then mosey up to the priceville suspension bridge pools for the rest of the am. Coin toss after that, depending on how hot it gets. If it's smokin hot like it was here today in Fredericton, well probably knock or off by noon and head for home.

VERY quiet at Porcupine Pool this AM. We were in the water by 6:20 and fished till almost 1100. Never saw a single rise, roll or jump. Nadda !

There was a few fish sitting right at the very top of the pool by the bank in the calm eddy about 20 yards below where the brook spills in, but they were having no part of a couple other fellas offerings. They hounded them all AM and no takers.

Interesting conversation with the camp owner on the way out ( not the warden camp but the other one). He informed us he didn;t want ATV's in there as its a private road and the "public pool is water access only". He said he doesn;t put signs up, or put a gate up, or grade the road, but seemed pretty intent (although very polite) to let us know we should not be accessing Porcupine from that road. (??)

Hmmm...sounds slighty fishy to me. Anyone have any info on that access road into Porcupine ?? Is it a crown land road originally built to access the wardens camp ? Regardless, the conversation just seemed a little odd.

On a brighter note, the weather was great ! Overcast, fairly cool, no bugs. We headed for home afterwards as it was starting to heat up and my fishing partner had a honeydew list to attend to. Would have like to pop into the Boistown pools and get the latest info on how those public pools have been doing lately.

Put a few hours in at the Priceville Footbridge this AM ( the pool above the bridge about 300 meters). Messed up setting my alarm clock so never even got there till almost 8:00. Quiet morning, only three of us fishing..and those two left by 8:30 or 9:00. No fish visible. No takers.

Appeared as those the Boiestown/Doaktown area didn't get nearly the amount of rain (if any) that we did in Fredericton last night. Water was still very low. My fishing excursion was based on the rain last night and impending rain this AM, hoping it would spark a little movement. I was wrong. Never saw a drop of rain all morning until I got back to the Northside around 2:00.

No fishing for me in the foreseeable future, at least till August,
