Hi Craig_K.

Which part of the island are you going too?

I am from the eastern part of Kings County and have fished in alot of the mill ponds and streams. My favorite places are right around Montague though. Knox's Dam being my favorite place to fish and Valley Field my next favorite spot. If you do go to fish these spots make sure you go at the back end of high tide. Meaning that it should be starting to fall. At Knox's you can stand on shore and roll cast out nymphs and just have a nice relaxing day or you can go to Valley Field and stand on shore or have better luck using waders and fishing the big hole on the north side of the bridge. At both spots are brookies, rainbows, and big steelheads. Seen some fish come out this year over 25 inchs in length.

Hope this helps.

Hello again Craig_K.

I was just assuming you fly fish but if you are a bait fisherman you can use earthworms or dew worms but I think your best luck is to get some live shrimp from the shore. The saltwater trout just love them. Watched alot of guys using shrimp land some nice trout at Valleyfield.

What are you using to catch the perch and trout in those waters? Any sort of fly in paticular?
