Mid July into end of August is usually mackerel season in NB. If you're boating, watch for gannets as they dive for capelin and is what the macks are chasing too.

Yeah, fun for sure! I'm gonna try to catch them via kayak this year. The thing about macks are when you hit a feeding school, you can pretty much throw anything at them and they'll hit. People have even caught them on a hook with a cigarette but on it. My dad used to make his own jigs by simply soldering led onto the shank of a hook, then sanding it shiny. Worked great!
