The Kennebacassis is terrible at the moment, the water is very low. The sea run is also gone since April from what I've heard... I was there last sunday and yes you could still some fish very easy... the green machine was the best for me during that weekend
what part of the river are you guys asking about anyway. I normally fish the C&R stretch

Oh man the water levels are low there too eh?! Here we have July flows and it's been that way since the end of April. Brutal... totally brutal.

It may be a bit low, last weekend it wasn't bad. Caught a nice salmon parr and released it right away. Also caught some nice brookies and a few catfish. Man Ilike this river!

it is one of the nicest rivers i fish on
I was fishing the CnR stretch last Thurs/Fri. This is my first year fishing there, but the water looks low to me. However, I think over the 2 days I probably hooked into a couple of dozen fish, maybe 10 of which were between 10 to 15 inches. I also caught a few on Monday in the CnK side.... There were also about 600 big fish that I could see in the deeper holes, I'm assuming they're suckers but one fella I ran into said there might be a Shad run.....all I know is they weren't interested in anything I threw at them!

Hi Skip, were you wading or did you float down? I heard there were Shad in. I was thinking about going after them specifically but was not sure how far up the river the might be holding.

I was fishing the K down river of sussex earlier last week and Shad where everywhere, have yet to hook one, but its just a matter of time!
LOL... I guess I could Google this... but whereabouts is this river? I love fishing any piece of water but especially picturesque pieces. LOL.. makes for great pictures. Is a guide needed for non-residents on this river or in sections of it? Sorry, I haven't come across it in the regs... yet!

The NB Regulations are published here: http://www.gnb.ca/0078/publications/Fish-e.pdf The Kennebecassis River starts near the community of Portage Vale and it wanders through a variety of small towns until it meets the Saint John River at Grand Bay. You can google a number of on-line maps for details. As with most "freestone" rivers, it starts narrow, rocky and brushy along the banks eventually broadening and deepening with sandy stretches. By the time it reaches Hampton it is a decent sized river with limited wading opportunities but good small boat access. Brook trout are generally more accessible in the upper reaches (above Bloomfield). There are guide, tackle and catch/release limitations that are described in the attached Regs. There are a wide variety of sportfishing opportunities along the length of the river, some of which vary according to migrations (shad, striped bass, etc).

anyone have any reports on the water levels today? how much did it rise up with the rain on Thursday? I was planning on hitting the C&R stretch tonight after work
I expect it to be up some but is it still fishable.

Twinfan, I was wadding. Both sides of the bridge. What kind of flies do Shad take....Streamers and the like?

I am not sure what they like, this will be my first time trying for them. I did read in a blog by a guy in NS that they were taking patterns with orange, gold, or pink. I have a few Mickey Finn streamers so I will probably start there and see how it goes.

Hey NBDeerhunter - did you get out? How was the river? Trout Creek here in Sussex is running high(er) and chocolate brown tonight. I am guessing it might take a day or three for the water to clear up on the main river.
