Hi,

I am just wondering where a fellow could fish on the Kedgwick - Lower stretch that can be accessed by foot/truck, and where you can fish by wading the river. Could you name these pools?

Same thing for the Jardine stretch please.

I do have a canoe, but would rather not pack it. I don't mind only hitting 1 or 2 pools in the morning and another 1 or 2 during the day, and 1 or 2 max in the evening. I don't really want to take the canoe and only fish 5 or 10 minutes in all the almost 40 pools that are on these 2 stretches of river.

Any details you may have to help are greatly appreciated. Any flies stand out as an obvious choice for both areas?

Thanks for your help,
Paul

I think your going to be out of luck if you don't use a canoe .
On the Jardine stretch the road comes in at the bottom of your water right at the Jardine brook pool the rest of your water is all up stream .
The lower Kedgwick is only accessable by canoe , if you don't have a motor canoe you could put in at the top where the road meets the river and float down , fishing on your way .

If I didn't want to use a canoe I wouldn't go to either of these stretches , but try and get Kedgwick forks where no canoe is needed .

oh ok. I have a canoe, but we are only bringing up 1 vehicle, so that kind of makes it difficult! I figured I could just go down and fish pools that are near where the roads gets closer to the rivers. I imagine it would be difficult paddling against the current to get back to the camps? ;o)

Unless they are brand new there are no camps on either stretch , your going to be tenting . Again Kedgwick Forks has a camp and you don't need a canoe .

There is a guy in Kedgwick River , Aprin canoes or something like that who could shuttle you around and even rent you a canoe if needed . He's at the mouth of the Kedgwick so he could drop you off up top and you could float down and fish to his place of business . Give him a call .

Your in the woods up there , the river IS the road for fishermen on the Restigouche .

I too am an avid wader. The forks is normally great. However this year has been different. They were telling people that they were getting fish at the forks (DNR) However they always say this. I know multiple groups that have gone there this year and been skunked. All the fish are in the lower end. (this being a dead water) I was looking at the lower stretch and because I don't like to hall canoes in and out also I have decided on going to the Matapedia. They are having great fishing there I am told. The forks is nice, but not for me this year. Oh if you do go in the Kedgwick river area take extra tires as they love to grate the road from time to time for the big trucks. I had 3 flat tires one year and numerous road side plugs. Best of luck and Matapedia here I come.

I was talking to Arpin earlier and yes they would do this for us... but I would be out of luck on the Jardine... I know that neck of the woods quite well having worked their for a few years and am pretty sure that I will be able to walk to pools from the roads... I hope! If I can make it to the bigger pools which I am confidant that I can, I don't mind fishing them for a while, as long as their are fish in them... If I was able to fish 2 full days at the Forks pool this year, I should be able to spread out my time in 2 to 3 pools... Just that the Jardine stretch will be a biatch to get to, as from the camp to the 9 mile pool and the others further upstream it will take me a good 45 minutes to driver there... then a nice hike through the bush.... worst that could happen is to walk into a bee's nest on the way in!

There is a new camp at the Jardine... and I thought that we could sleep in the old wardens camp and the 1 mile pool area... I hope! Will see when I get there. Just hope we have better luck than both outings we had at Kedgwick Forks this year!!!!!!!

We got a 4 man crew heading to the Jardine stretch on Sunday. What are the best pools on this stretch? Only one of us have been there out of the group but he has only been there once so any info would be great. Thanks.
