I definitely agree with the Bugger. I once read that you couldn't go wrong with a box full of them. Tie them in brown, olive and black. I tied a couple the other day in purple and the bass were insane. Try tying them with beadheads and/or lead wrap under the chenille... say 5 wraps.

One other thing. They also liked the "Cats Whisker" fly as well.

Tie some Clouser Minnows, or Double Bunny or Quad Bunny Streamers. These ( Bunnies) use Rabbit Zonker strips. Look them up on Google of you're not famioliar with them. Good for Pickerel and Large Lake Brookies too.

I have had some good results fishing a green bass bug with a green marabou tail and a few strands of pearl krystal flash.
About size 6 should be ok for smallies.
if that doesn't work then try some olive rabbit zonker leech's on size 6 eagle river hooks.
