Hey Gang:

I'm not too sure what type of fly fishing opps I'm going to have while visiting your province. i am thinking of trying to fly fish some saltwater and freshwater. I'm not too sure what species that you guys have out there readily available to fly fish in saltwater. I was thinking of fish like mackerel and such. In the case of stripers and mackerel (again I'm not too sure what there is to be had and I'm oblivious when it comes to saltwater) what kind of fly selection are we talking? Is there bluefish there? I remember guys in Battery Park (NYC last year) catching them on spinning gear. Mean looking fish. I'm thinking streamers based on white and black to imitate forage would be the way to go. Any help would be appreciated and great.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Bill:

We're going to be staying in Saint John from the 2nd to the 10th of July. I think that's what we booked for hotel rooms. The first week of our trip is in Halifax with the second in Saint John. I'm more than willing to fish a few locations while I'm there. We do have a couple of must see's in NB while we're there... Hopewell Rocks for example. But... the fly rods will be used while I'm down.

Bluefish are very rare here though i've heard they get some on the NS side of the Bay?Any big flashy baitfish imitations(clousers etc.)are good for Stripers.Herring is the baitfish you'll want to imitate.I've never flyfished for mackerel but they're not fussy at all and hit just about anything you throw at them...just about any flashy streamer stripped fast should take them?
