Excellent start of season for the fish, not the fishermen. The water level is high, there are fish everywhere in the system, but the bite is off from the fishing reports I got so far from the salmon bum fraternity (I have only been out once for a few casts...)

The basin is choke full of jumping fish just waiting for the right conditions to start a run. We expect 30mm of rain in the next 24hrs, so that's not gonna help the water levels, but might get some fish running up.

By week's end, I plan on wetting a line, some high water pools might be producing fish. You should get into half-decent fishing by that time I have to imagine.

Good luck on the river and hopefully thight lines.

You probably mean Pabineau Falls, not Indian Falls. Salmon cannot run up to Indian Falls, which is 50 miles from tidal waters. The last stop for Nepisiguit Salmon is Grand Falls dam, now owned by NB Power, 25 miles from tidal waters.

Pabineau Falls is 12 miles from tidal waters.

A buddy told me at lunch time he had hooked 3 below Pabineau Falls last Saturday but lost them all (blamed it on High Water )

I hang my hat in Bathurst...

Sorry, I tought you meant salmon fishing.

Indian Falls, Bear's Den area should be good if the water recedes a bit. Upper section of the river is still high level. Trout are everywhere on the river, but typically this time of year, the section you're reffering to holds nice fish. Quite a few good fishing reports from 44 Mile Bk down to Heath Steele Bridge about 2-3 weeks ago, so the trout are moving up there, + they're always what I call resident fish that hold year round in those bigger pools.

I have been to Indian Falls once about 3 weeks ago and it was a bit too early, just a ton of small fish then,.

Good luck.
