Hi all,

What a nice site this is... and it will only get better!

I was just wondering if anybody could give me a few pointers on the best way to fish at Charlie's Rock... what are the best pools... how to fish them... which pools fish best dry... which pools fish best wet, etc.

Thanks,
Paul

I have been to Charlies Rock twice and both times when reading the log book at the camp, the majority of Fish had all been caught at "Charlies Rock Pool". Hence that is where I spent most of my time fishing both trips.

As to how to fish the pool. At Charlies Rock pool there log on the bank that you can sit on. In front of that there is a large rock. You can fish wet standing on that rock. There is a chain of rocks at the bottom of the pool and you can get out on them and fish dry up into the pool. From what I have seen, and where we have caught fish. Most of the fish lay between the large rock and the chain of rocks at the bottom of the pool.

Everyone please correct me if I am wrong.

I would read the log book at the camp when you arrive. Previous people are usually pretty good about leaving a quick not in the log book about how they made out (where they caught fish and on what fly).

Hope this helps.

Hey Paul, spent the weekend up on the LSW and the water was extremely low. But given the last couple of days things should improve especially since many of the nets were removed from the lower region.

I have been fortunate enough to be on parties going to Charlies rock three years running (knock knock) and have some suggestions for you. 1) Other than the first two pools, upriver is a waste of time the terrain is brutal and the trail unless something has changed is basically nonexistant. 2)In low water, head right down to Charlies rock and start there, we have caught fish there as it is shaded and deep. Down river from there are pockets of deep fast water that seem to hold fish. Last year we had to go all the way down to Gorhams hole to get much action, it's about a 30 - 45min straight out walk over rough country but worth it. And below there at the head of long pool was excellent. Two years ago we had a good rain before we arrived and the water was high, there were lot's of fish everywhere. 3) Bring a good pack, bottled water, sandwiches, and a good pair of boots/hikers as you are going to do a lot of walking and climbing.

Good luck

There is a massive huge, slow and wide part of the river right in front of the camp. At the very top of that big wide slow area, right where the narrow and fast part of the river pours into this big deep spot in front of the camp, there are often grilse that rest right there.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, will tell you it's a waste of time to fish at that spot.
Everyone is wrong.

Well Mr Lobsterman, I plan on trying that very spot and will prove you right... even if you already know you are right... I will private message you how many I caught and it will be our little secret! ;o)

Thanks everyone for the help... any other pointers from anyone are welcome!
