Does any one know what species of fish can be caught in the canaan river
around the old Blacks store ?

I was there a couple of weeks ago and caught two brookies, an 18 inch pickerel and 3 small mouth bass all within 30 minutes.

I think this place is usually good for Bass and Perch, I heard a few people last year talking about this place for Bass etc...

I was there a couple weeks back.. caught my first ever bass ! 18 1/2 inchs 4.9 pounds! for a avid trout fishermen it gave me quite the fight ! they must be alot of fun to hook on fly!

Is this all on the Canaan River by the covered bridge at Black's Old store (Cherryvale) area or anywhere along the river there?

from that bridge going down river from there, they are all over the place.

I was there the other day and only caught some nice perch. I was pretty mad but the HUGE fish were jumping. Saw some huge pickeral, and bass jumpin for flies. Hopefully I get there again soon!

This sounds like a very good fishing spot but, I was kinda wondering what you guys are using for baits and lures?

does the canaan river weed up much, i thinkin bout headin up there around middle of july

i must be mixing up the cannan river and another spot.

anyplace with pickeral and bass, a top water frog, a frog popper or a plastic jerk frog should all land good fish. i use a thinm wire leader for pickeral, no swivel to keep it light and natural.

ps:never thumb a pickeral!!!! teeeth!
