Whats everyones go to early season bass lure? I use a 4" blue grub yr round with great success, but i was on ebay and ordered some 5" husky jerks in various colors. One is orange red and black, never seen one like this so im curious what ppl use for spring colors.

I don't have a specific go to color but its good to experiment. I think it can be just as important to switch up sizes and shape.

If f = the optimal number of rods to own
and x = your current number of rods
then f = x + 1

By early season bass, if you mean smallmouth it doesn't matter what you use in the spring. You just have to cast where they are, and if they're there they will strike. Once they have spawned, they will attack anything that comes close to their "nest" in late May/early June.

Ya true enough about the spawn, seems that always the last week in june where i fish on the sj in freddy its nuts, doesnt matter what u throw they hit.

Agreed about "strike anything" but I really like to toss texas rigged green senkos into grass piles, don't much use them after the spawn, but during the spawn they are killer (live release, happy fish, happy fisherman... just an expression). Landed my largest Smallie ever doing that. Had some fun with plastic crawfish too.

I have the best luck with the black back and silver/white belly and the fire tiger ones.

I had really good results with a chartreuse blade bait last season, early in the season
