I used to find that too but I'm starting to wonder if I wasn't aggressive enough in walking the river. I've done a lot of exploratory this year and things have kept fairly consistent. Some days are slow but we're nearly august and I'm stilling having some solid days with 10+ large smallies being landed.

I agree with you and habs i have been fishing the canaan for the last 3 years and its usually over for bass after june but seeing your recent success on the river I went out yesterday afternoon and caught 1 small bass using wacky rig. nice to see they are sticking around a little longer. might have been a different story if I went in the evening, not sure.

That is very encouraging Lokithx.  It is great fun catching them.  I usually stick to one part of the river.  There is certainly more to explore.

Went out last night. Wasn't planning for much action, just wanted to walk a stretch I hadn't walked yet. Only two pickerel, which seem to be getting more thick on the river as of late.

Had a Canaan outing last night. I find holding spots are shifting.

Still from the video:

Another great video.  I'm going to be at the camp this weekend and you're making sure I'm going to hit the river at the same time.. Thanks for that :)

I was out this evening near mac Donald road fished for 2 hours caught 1 decent bass.  first one of the year as i have been specializing in brookies. but the waters are getting low in brooks and im not going to start crawling so i can get to the honey holes whithout spooking the fish. :D

Yes props to the people who take camera duty when they're out with me. Trying to do it all yourself is a nightmare.

Some new footage. The recent rain has been pushing back my plans to explore for migrating bass.

Anyone catching anything on the Canaan lately? I know the water has been high.  Was thinking of trying this afternoon.  Thanks

Water levels at Pam's are 0.5, in what I call the sweet range for fishing the Canaan. You will likely find mostly pickerel in the upper reaches now. I'm certain the SMB are moving downstream.

Ya  I agree....I did not get out today but was thinking of the morning but my lack of luck in the past in this time of yearing might keep me away.......never hurts to try though.  Thanks for the response.

Went today for a bit.  Not a bass to be seen :(  It was worth a try.  Til next May :)

Expected.

I have some things to test. I expect to have some answers this week now that the water is down.
